August 31, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

This book is a touching and at times raw look at the emotional journey Cher Ewing faced as a result of her weight loss surgery.  Often, clients are not prepared for the emotional side of the journey with its many pot holes and road blocks along the way.

Coach Cher openly and candidly discusses her own experience and has developed a roadmap for others Weight Loss Surgery candidates to follow that can ensure long-term success.

Unlike other “Weight Loss Surgery” books on the market; “Transformation Caravan” focuses on the emotional side of Weight Loss Surgery.  It inspires and informs at the same time. Anyone considering Weight Loss Surgery would be wise to consume this book in its entirety.

step into the spotlightShakespeare is famous for saying “All the world’s a stage.  And, all the men and women merely players.”  Tsufit has brought this idea into the 21st century and applied it to business. THE GOOD MOOD DIET

The Good Mood Diet

The connection between diet and mood has always fascinated me, so when I came across this book, I had to pick it up and read it. It was a very interesting look into the science behind how what we eat affects our hormones, brain chemicals, sleep and therefore our mood.

While I didn’t agree with every word of the book, I did find that most of the advice was very solid and agreed with much of what I had already learned. For example, anyone prone to blood sugar imbalances knows that hypoglycemia can dramatically affect their thinking and feeling. Eating plenty of protein, frequently throughout the day is wise advice for anyone.

The most important things we should do if we want to feel better is: eat plenty of protein in the morning, eat lots of Omega 3 fatty acids in the form of fish, never allow ourselves to feel hungry (eat to prevent hunger), avoid refined carbs and choose whole grains instead, in moderation.

The book talks a lot about the importance of sleeping enough both to control weight and to improve mood, and gives specific diet recommendations to help with that. It also eschews some of the modern critics of foods like eggs and nuts. Instead of being too fatty or high in cholesterol or what-have-you, these foods are very important to our health and wellbeing.

The book promises to help you feel better in one day if you follow the guidelines, experiencing an ease in depression in one week, and weight loss in one month. I can definitely see how this would be true.

Notes to a Working Women

notes to a working women

By: Luci Swindoll

So often women define themselves by their titles-Wife, Mother, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Sales Assistant, Filing Clerk-but how often do they stop to define their raison d’etre, their life’s passion? Thirty years at Mobil Oil corporate offices and five more at Insight for Living as Vice President of Public Relations taught Luci Swindoll a thing or two about business, and much more about herself and Christian women in the workplace.

Written for the gamut of working women, the Notes include five particularly noteworthy interviews with Anne Lamott, Mary Graham, Andrea Grossman, Peggy Wehmeyer, and CeCe Winans. Though varied in career, they share an awareness of and awe for the role Christ plays in their daily lives-a role He fulfills, not just in the workplace, but at home, in church, and most importantly, in the heart.

I probley read this book five times a year.  Every time I seem to fall into a slump with work Luci brings me right out of it.  She takes you on a journey in this book a journey from start to finish.  I would recommend this book to anyone.  I find myself so many times feeling like Luci is talking directly to me.  And all the time it is helping me to incorporate Our Heavenly Father in my work.  How much more wonderful can it get.

311 Pelican Court

311 Pelican Court

Cedar Cove, Washington

Dear Reader,

One thing about Cedar Cove – people sure are interested in what other people are doing. Take me, for instance. Everybody in this town knows that my husband, Zach, and I recently got a divorce. Everybody also knows that Judge Olivia Lockhart decreed a pretty unusual custody arrangement. It won’t be the kids moving between my place and Zach’s. We’re the ones who’ll be going back and forth!

Olivia isn’t immune to gossip herself. Will she stay with Jack, the guy who runs our local paper, or will she get back with her ex? Inquiring minds want to know!

But the really big gossip has to do with the dead guy – the man who died at a local bed-and-breakfast. Who is he and why did he show up there in the middle of the night? Roy McAfee, our local private investigator, is absolutely determined to find out. I hope he does – and then I’ll let you know! See you soon . . .

Rosie

From the moment I picked up this book, I could not put it down. After Olivia gave such a odd court order I just had to see how it worked. But you think why does not not happen in real life. Why don’t more judges tell the parents they have to move back and forth and the kids get to stay in their home the whole time. It seems like a good plan. The kids have to sometimes get sick of going back and forth. Through the whole book the kids are trying to hard to get Zack and Rosie back together. But will it work. Just when you think it will things take a turn.

All this time Olivia is in Love with Jack but will the love she shares for her ex husband be stronger then the love she has for Jack. Olivia almost seems destine to be back with her Ex husband. They have so much in common and just seem to make that perfect couple. Jack and Olivia on the other hand are total opposites. But you know that old saying, ” Opposites attached.” Is that saying going to keep Olivia and Jack together or will it force Olivia back into her ex husbands arms.

But the best part of the book is the whole mystery of who is this dead guy and where did he come from and what was he doing in Cedar Cove. I thought I had it all figured out. I was sure I knew who he was and what is was doing there. And then things take a big old twist and get all turned around.

Debbie has outdone herself with this book and truly kept me turning the pages for more.
